Jose Pena specializes in crop/livestock production economics and farm/ranch business management (see Texas Extension Economics and Jose Pena's home page.)
Mr. Pena's programs include assisting farmers and ranchers in planning and evaluating production, policy, marketing and financial management techniques and alternatives as they relate to overall competitiveness and profitability.
In addition to a general production economic and business management program, Mr. Pena's activities include a concentrated interest in vegetable, pecan, fruit orchard and greenhouse production economics. He is often asked to address specific economic topics in these special interest activities at the state and national level. He has authored numerous articles and publications in these subject matter areas.
Mr. Pena writes a weekly farm management column which is published in several outlets on a regular basis. His expertise in economics is widely recognized among his peers and the farmers and ranchers he serves.
Mr. Pena is bilingual (Spanish), has international orientation, and has had the opportunity to serve in five European, six Middle-Eastern, sever Far-Eastern, and 12 Latin American countries.
He received the Texas Agricultural Extension Service's Superior Service Award in 1988, completed the Army Command General Staff College, and the left the U.S. Army Service as a Lieutenant Colonel.
