Three-seeded Mercury is found growing in dry sandy soil of the Edwards Plateau. It is an upright herb reaching a height of six to eighteen inches. The spear-shaped leaves are 3/4 to 1 inch in length with course teeth on the margins. Unlike Acalypha radians, the male and female flowers are found on the same plant. The red male flowers are found on the upper portion of the spike, while the female flowers are found on the lower portion of the spike. Three-seeded Mercury blooms from April to November.
