Sundrops can be found in old fields and on hillsides of the Edwards Plateau and the South Texas Plains. The plant predominately grows on sandy or rocky soil. Sundrops can reach a height of thirty-two inches. The flower has yellow petals with the center and stigma black or yellow. The diameter of the flower is between one to 2 inches. The protruding stigmas distinguish this species from the other species found in Texas.
