American Basketflower has a cream colored center and light purple edge and stands alone at one and a half to five feet. The flower grows in sandy or clay-loam soils in bare grounds, over-grazed pastures, fields, or most prairies of the Edwards Plateau and South Texas Plains. This wildflower remains without the prickly characteristics seen on other thistles. American Basketflower blooms from May to August.
