The mechanisms native shrubs use to avoid or tolerate grazing have allowed shrubs to dominate our rangelands. Changes in plant architecture after grazing or mechanical disturbance are being investigated. These changes can alter how a plant captures resources and how animals graze. The impact of altered shrub morphology on intake rates of native ruminants is a parallel project directed by the wildlife biologist.
